Well Folks If you are visiting this web site, you probably know already. But here goes the story! Off and on since I officially became a “senior” in October I’ve had bouts where I’ve not felt well. I’ve gone through food poisoning, a cold which led to pneumonia and then an increasing difficulty in swallowing solid food. This culminated just a week or so before Christmas, when just nothing but liquids would go down. Complicating things a little was a series of rather messy nose bleeds. Which for treatment purposes took priority. I did have some antibiotic drug therapy for the throat in the interim which seem to help but the swallowing problem really didn’t get much better. On Sunday, January 25 2009, I was in emergency at Etobicoke General (one of several visits). I lucked out by getting Doctor Rosenburg who, after poking around and talking (and listening) to me and Kim & Krys, realized that something was really amiss. He was determined to get to the bottom of my issues. He sent us home at 2:00am and told us to be back before 8:00am the same day and by then he would have someone lined up to do a “scope” of my throat. He was true to his word. On Monday, Dr. David Ford did the scope and diagnosis. It turns out that I have cancer of the esophagus. Yeah, it was a shocker to hear those words. You all know how stubborn I can be so when I say that I am going to beat this, you know damn well that with some help and positive energy from my family and friends “I will”. The girls and I thought that this might be a good way keep you posted with developments etc. as they occur so give our site a spin. It will allow you to check up on us at your leisure. We certainly are not discouraging calls but it could get hectic in the next few weeks and the web site may provide a useful information source. Wally |
